Color
Definitions:
Base Color: The dog's primary coloring, without regard to any
differently colored hairs interspersed throughout the coat.
Guard Hair Color: Hair of a different shade or color than the
base
color, interspersed throughout the coat as to cause a shaded
appearance.
Not to be confused with a few stray hairs of a differing color. Guard
hairs are often comprised of various intensity of one shade.
Leather Color: The color of the dog's nose, eye rims, and foot
pads.
Color Name: The descriptive words that define each combination
of Base
Color, Guard Hair Color, and Leather Color.
Red (may substitute Apricot or Cream): Different intensities of the color
red, from the palest apricot to the darkest red.
Chocolate: Dark brown color.
Blue: The dilute phase of black.
Fawn: The dilute phase of chocolate, sometimes referred to as
Isabella.
Merle: A coat color splashed or marked by darker patches of
hair. Not to be confused with a dog with colored spots. Leather color
determines whether a merle is black, blue, chocolate, or fawn.
Brindle: A coat color consisting of alternating bands of color,
as to
give the impression of stripes. Leather color determines whether a
brindle is black, blue, chocolate, or fawn.
Tan Points: Colored markings, as described in the breed
standard,
ranging from the lightest cream to the darkest mahogany.
