Color Definitions:

Base Color: The dog's primary coloring, without regard to any
differently colored hairs interspersed throughout the coat.

Guard Hair Color: Hair of a different shade or color than the base
color, interspersed throughout the coat as to cause a shaded appearance.
Not to be confused with a few stray hairs of a differing color. Guard
hairs are often comprised of various intensity of one shade.

Leather Color: The color of the dog's nose, eye rims, and foot pads.

Color Name: The descriptive words that define each combination of Base
Color, Guard Hair Color, and Leather Color.

Red  (may substitute Apricot or Cream): Different intensities of the color red, from the palest apricot to the darkest red.

Chocolate: Dark brown color.

Blue: The dilute phase of black.

Fawn: The dilute phase of chocolate, sometimes referred to as Isabella.

Merle: A coat color splashed or marked by darker patches of hair. Not to be confused with a dog with colored spots. Leather color determines whether a merle is black, blue, chocolate, or fawn.

Brindle: A coat color consisting of alternating bands of color, as to
give the impression of stripes. Leather color determines whether a brindle is black, blue, chocolate, or fawn.

Tan Points: Colored markings, as described in the breed standard,
ranging from the lightest cream to the darkest mahogany.
